Artist Statement

Driven by social problems, Cherry has found solace in using animals as metaphors to convey her thoughts on social power dynamics. Through her paintings and ceramic sculptures, she seeks to juxtapose contrasting concepts, presenting thought-provoking ideas alongside idealized forms. Her art journey has driven her to incorporate Western and Eastern art traditions. Her recent taxidermy painting series integrates the concepts of European Vanitas painting with the technique of Gongbi painting, a traditional realist Chinese ink painting technique.
